The Story
The evolution toward 6G communications introduces unprecedented security and privacy challenges. Protecting sensitive user data, safeguarding ultra-low latency communications, and defending against emerging cyber threats are critical for future networks. Traditional static security measures cannot keep pace with the dynamic and distributed nature of 6G infrastructures.
MARE addresses these challenges by introducing a programmable, modular, and disaggregated security plane. By combining enriched security primitives (DOTs), a smart pre-assessment environment, and a systematic attacks modeling framework, MARE enables proactive, adaptive, and trustworthy security and privacy provisioning across complex 6G networks. This approach ensures that threats can be anticipated, assessed, and mitigated in real time, providing a foundation for secure and resilient next-generation wireless systems.
Project Overview
MARE redefines 6G security by building a programmable security plane capable of delivering composable security services across multi-domain, multi-stakeholder networks. Enriched security primitives (DOTs) form the building blocks for dynamic security services, while a smart pre-assessment environment — integrating simulation, emulation with network digital twins, and real infrastructure — allows functions to be validated before deployment.
In addition, MARE implements an Attacks Modeling Reference Framework to categorize and understand evolving threats within the 6G ecosystem. The project demonstrates the security plane across 11 proof-of-concept setups, ensuring compliance with European and international 6G architectural standards, and showing that programmable, security-by-design frameworks can operate reliably under real-world conditions.
Our Contribution
Within MARE, FDI focuses on making the security plane operationally usable across multi-domain networks and ensuring that its innovative features translate into real engineering solutions:
The Results
